About this event
In August of 1837 the Grimke sisters brought their anti-slavery and women’s rights lecture tour to Groton, having embarked on a history-making journey nearly 20 years earlier that took them from the deep South to the North. It was here that Sarah Grimke posted two serialized letters on the condition of women. In a live, 50-minute presentation, historian and performance artist Chris Potts shares deeply personal stories and impassioned public writings that forged Sarah’s path to human rights activism and established her place among the greatest reformers in American history.
Generously sponsored by the Lecture Fund from the Commissioners of the Trust, and presented in partnership by Groton Neighbors, the Groton Historical Society and the Groton Public Library. Please register via the Groton Public Library registration site.
