Come Walk With Us!

John Tinker Trail, Nod Road

Friday, October 15th at 1:00

Paul Funch and Pat Hartvigsen will lead a guided walk on the John Tinker Trail here in Groton. Paul was instrumental in the creation of this ¼ mile long accessible trail located in the J. Harry Rich State Forest. The trail is flat with benches and lovely views along the way.

We will gather at the trail head on Nod Rd. (at a gated parking area on the left, approximately ½ mile ENE from Rte. 119 where it crosses the Nashua River) at 1:00 on Friday, October 15. Feel free to bring water and a light snack to enjoy at the picnic tables at the end of the trail.

We are excited to share this walk in the woods with you. Please RSVP by email or call me at 448-6589 so we know how many hikers to expect.

Remember that Groton Neighbors can arrange a ride if you need one! Just contact the office by service@grotonneighbors.org or phone (978-272-0123).

SENSE OF PLACE
A SPECIAL PRIVATE ART TOUR AND LECTURE
Groton History Center, Boutwell House, 172 Main Street
Sunday, October 17th at 1 p.m.
We are fortunate to have Groton Neighbor member Carolyn Perkins provide us with a private tour and overview of the History Center and an extraordinary art exhibit. Participating artist and member Mary Minifie will speak about her paintings and those of Edmund Tarbell, both of which are featured at the Boutwell House.
“Sense of Place” is a themed project sponsored by the Groton History Center bringing together an extended group of talented people in our area in order to each create an inspired piece of art that is related to this theme. The J. D. Poor murals at the Groton Inn, the recently acquired carved birds by Harvey Sargisson, and our current exhibit of portraits in the collection all suggest our connection to the arts from the past. The goal is to capture a glimpse of the arts in the 2020s looking back to the future.”
Transportation is happily provided. Call Groton Neighbors at 978-272-0123. Masks are required.
Space limited to 10 members. Confirm today for this special event!
Please RSVP to Diane Hewitt at 978-448-6228 or diane.hewitt@gmail.com or on the Groton Neighbors website: www.grotonneighbors.org

Do You Love Cheese?
Have you ever wanted to discover details about how your favorite cheeses are created?
We are delighted to announce our first event in a farm to table series about tasting the food and beverages we enjoy. Recently opened, the Barn Door, an artisanal and epicurean market, is collaborating with the Groton Grange agricultural community, to offer an introductory talk and cheese tasting on Saturday, October 23, from 3 – 5 pm at the Groton Grange #7 building, 80 Champney Street, in Groton.
At 3 pm, the Barn Door’s cheese monger, Steve Dahlgren, will present a dynamic talk about cheese making and the different styles of cheeses. Steve has over 20 years of experience in the cheese business and is the General Manager of the Barn Door at Able Farm and Garden, 51 South Road, on Route 119, Pepperell.
At 4 pm, an outdoor cheese tasting event will take place following strict Covid protocols. Steve will offer a wide variety of cheeses to taste. Donations appreciated for the maintenance of our historic Grange Hall.
The introductory talk is free to all and sponsored by the Town of Groton Trust Funds’ Lecture Fund.
Reservations are required for the outdoor cheese tasting at 4 pm. Please RSVP at mrmblaze50@gmail.com or 978-448-5426 by October 16.
Parking is on Common Street.
